HOME OAKFIELD STREET SIMON'S WALKS IN CHELSEA

Simon's Walks in Chelsea

King's Road | Fulham Road | Cheyne Walk & Embankment

These notes are a somewhat idiosyncratic guide for exploratory wanders,
in a westerly direction, along Chelsea’s Fulham Road, King’s Road and
the Embankment including Cheyne Walk.

They do not attempt to be complete or pretend to be authoritative but act
more as a collage; snippets of history and gossip, artists and architecture,
and the lost pubs.

The notes are illustrated by past and presents, “Then & Nows”, comparing
and contrasting old postcards from the early twentieth century with
photographs of the same view a hundred years later. Where appropriate
the message on the card will be included as a fragment of social history.

Any comments, corrections, links and additions will be gratefully accepted at; demare@easynet.co.uk

The notes and “Then & Nows” will be updated as more is discovered. Notes on Kensington’s Old Brompton and Cromwell Roads, High Street Ken. and Notting Hill Gate will be added in due course.

A current map will accompany each section. However older maps can be most fascinating.
